Serializer Power Supply
Modified By jason on 7/5/2007 11:02:22 AM)

Customer Question:

We bought a serializer controller recently and I am inquiring about a good

choice for an AC adapter to power the board.  I have a 9V @ 800mV unregulated

AC plug in adapter.  However, with no load it supplies 13V, which is in excess

of the raged 12V max.  Will this hurt the board?

If so, can you recommend a good choice?

Well, to be honest, we had a bunch of wal wart power supplies laying around, and found one that provided 3A at 12V. :)   It's actually an Energizer power supply for some of our NiMH battery chargers (purchased at Wal-Mart).

We made an adapter cable to go from the barrel connector on the power supply to a common Tamiya male battery connector.  Then, we use our Serializer Wiring Harnesses to connect the adapter cable to the Serializer so we can cycle power as needed.

I wouldn't try the 13V supply, however, I would go with one that provides at least 7V at 1.5A.  Anything less, and you may have trouble upgrading firmware, especially if you have sensors connected.

Also, here's a link for one a 12V 3.33A power supply that would work well.

MPJA has some really good power supplies, and they're a reputable store.

We've purchased from them in the past, and have been very happy with their products.

Re: Serializer Power Supply

Well, according to your wiring above, you have reversed polarity and fried the Serializer.

The RED wire always goes to '+', and the BLACK wire is always '-' or Ground (GND).

We state very explicitly in the User's Guide in bold, red font to be sure to get the polarity right when connecting the battery, else damage will ensue (and we're not responsible).

You can ship it back, and we can attempt to fix it for $10 + shipping, but there are no guarantees.
