Hi,
I have recently inherited an unused Serializer V1.1 at uni from someone who bought it, but then got a job somewhere else and has now passed it on to me! I have been using it so far with hyperterminal and I'm really excited with thought of now developing some C# (which I am currently learning) GUI-based applications for it. Before I start doing this, I want to make sure that I am running with the most up-to-date firmware and .Net libraries:
The device I have is firmware revision v1.2.0. I notice on the site that the current firmware is v1.5.1, but is marked as "Serializer WL" firmware - the newer system to the board I own. Is this firmware also suitable for my V1.1 board?
Secondly, I notice on the site that the .NET Library Installer v1.2.2.3 is the most current version. Is this library also compatible with my earlier device?
Thanks for reading and I look forward to spending some time here.
Jamieboy,
Yes, the latest firmware available is v1.5.1, and it will work just fine on your v1.0 board. :) Directions for upgrading the firmware can be found in the Serializer User Guide. Make sure you have a power supply/battery w/ at least 6.0V, which can supply at least 1 Amp (in case you have sensors connected) before upgrading. You also might have to adjust the line and character delay in Hyperterm, depending on whether you have an RS-232 port, or if you're using a USB to RS-232 adapter cable.
Yes, the current .NET library is also compatible w/ your v1.0 board. I have a new .NET library coming out over Christmas, which has a few additional features, and some minor bug fixes.
Best Regards!
Hi Jason,
Thanks for the prompt reply - I shall upgrade the firmware as per the instructions, safe in the knowledge that I will not turn it into an ex-serializer!
I'm using a serial port, directly from the PC, but I will keep in mind about adjusting the character delay.
Thank you again,
Jamie
