5V Switching Voltage Regulator

We developed this 5V Switching Voltage Regulator board to provide efficient power to our ICOP PC104 line of boards. Unlike inefficient linear voltage regulators (which dissipate power via heat), this switching regulator is battery friendly!

FYI: Switching regulators typically operate at 85% efficiency, whereas linear regulators typically operate at 40% efficiency.

Why would you buy this over a cheap linear regulator from Radio Shack? Well, if you are building an advanced robot with large power requirements, and a switching regulator gives you 45% more battery life, it makes sense. If you are making a simple robot with little power requirements, it would probably be overkill.

This regulator bolts directly to our Traxster Robot Kit, which allows you to use an ICOP Vortex86-6082 controller onboard with WiFi Kit.
