Hi, my question is about the DC motors used in Traxster kit. Can I use just the red and black wires with a battery to provide continuous rotation (without use of the encoder wire)?

because I do not know how to use the quadrature encoder.

Yes, you sure can.   The only reason you would need the encoder wires is if you wanted to measure how fast, and how far your robot has traveled.
