Peter,

I haven't had any luck getting the FTDI driver to work. After spending several days on it, I had to move on to other more important projects. :) Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the FTDI driver is going to work w/ our USB daughter card.

I am making progress...On Wednesday, I deployed a debug build, which I used to capture debugging info for all zones of the OHCI USB catalog item, when I plugged in the USB module. Since it was a new build, I forgot to place the FTDI drivers out there, and it attempted to load the usbcam.dll driver for the module. :/ So, I rebuilt and removed the usb web cam subproject, and I'll retest it tonight to see if it actually loads the correct drivers (once I put them out there), and also see if the usbcam.dll might have been another reason it wasn't working before.

If I get it to work, I'll create a FTDI subproject, and make it available for customer use. :)

So, I'll definitely know more by Monday.

That's good to hear! :) I've been trying to get a debug build of my image to complete successfully, but somehow I blew a driver file away, and it won't build! :crazy: Once I get it to build, I'll run it, and see what the FTDI driver is complaining about. Then, I can narrow it down, and hopefully fix it. :)

Thanks for all the updates. I chose a different approach to adding drivers, and was successful.

Instead of using subprojects, I just manually added them to the Project.bib and added the appropriate registry settings in the Project.reg. I got everything to work, except the ftdi_ser driver I got from ftdi's site.

Again, thanks for your continued research into this problem, if you find a way to get the USB serializer working that would be excellent, otherwise we'll just have to buy an additional RS232 module from you. lets pretend you didnt read that last sentence though :)

I'm still struggling to get the FTDI USB drivers to work on the eBox and recognize our USB module.

I'm waiting on Jim Wilson (CE Guru) to help me out, who is knee deep in developing a robotic application (using the Serializer) for the company he works for. Hopefully, we'll have this figured out in a few more days. :)

I have added WiFi support and dual Serial port support to my image, and successfully got all of it working (very easily). Now, I'm trying to get the FTDI USB-Serial driver to recognize our USB Modules for the Serializer. Once I have that completed (or deemed that it won't work), I'll release the CE image and Project to customers who have purchased the eBox-2300 from us.

I just built a new image with the Dual Serial Ports enabled, WiFi driver functionality, and FTDI USB driver support...I'll try to test it tomorrow and post my notes.

I will have time this coming weekend to build a new CE image that works w/ the WiFi card, has both COM ports enabled and working, and has the FTDI USB driver installed (so users can communicate over USB to the Serializer). I will take and post notes on the procedures. I will also be glad to make the project/image available to customers who have purchased the eBox-2300/Stinger CE Kit from us.

I, newbe, am having similar issues. I am running XP on my dev system. But I am assuming that I just don't know how to do it yet. I have not found a guide to adding a driver to an existing project. I have not found the project that would recreate the OS in the shipped eBox. I tried to add a 2GB Compact Flash, but can find a way to create the OS since it does not appear as an additional drive, but as a replacement. Without both at the same time I can't run sys.exe. Where can I instructions find these?

Thanks in advance. Can't wait to get past this so that I can run stuff with the Serializer.

Hi Peter,

I can tell you that we are not using Vista for development purposes (but XP rather). Maybe Jim can shed some light on this...I know he's been developing CE images under Vista for a while now.

I will add the drivers to our CE image later this week, test it on our end, and let you know how it goes.

I'm at a loss here. No matter what I try, I can not get ANY additional drivers to work correctly in my CE6 build image.

The wireless card that comes with the eBox2300 (subproject added via MSI driver install for it) -- does not work.

I also downloaded the driver files for ftdi's usb>serial driver so I could use the USB serializer to talk to my ebox. This also does not work.

I used Mike Hall's CEFileWiz to create a project. I selected the ftdi_ser.dll as a include file, generated it. Then modified the reg file under the subproject/parameter files folder to include the referenced registry entries. I build my image, plugin in my serializer, and got the unrecognized driver dialog.
I tried to enter ftdi_ser.dll, that did not work. so, I copied ftdi_ser.dll and the included .inf file to the /windows/ folder. and tried to load the driver again... this also did not work.

For reference, I'm using VS.Net2005 SP1 w/ Platform Builder CE6 SP1 R2 w/ rollup from 12/31/07 compiled on a Vista x64 box.

Both subprojects show up in my solution explorer, they just don't appear to DO anything.
