Your wiring of the Merge/Motor objects in SerializerGp2d12Front service looks odd to me, but again, I haven't used VPL.

Off the cuff, it sounds like some messages aren't getting propogated properly. I would re-read how to hook up the VPL objects, and ensure that you have the correct messages wired.

Best Regards!

RE: Serializer and VPL

I am a very visual person and would prefer to program with the VPL. I have built the Serializer Services and the Traxster Drive Service, both compiled without issue. The traxster drive service is also fully operational and controls and receives all the, motors, servos and sensors. The problem comes when I try to use the services in VPL. I can get readings from the IR sensors however I cannot execute any commands issued to the serializer services. I am trying to use three different services the IR service is working fine so I will leave that out below.

Motor - My motorpower variables are getting updated but nothing gets executed. Also I don't see any changes on the service webpage. I do get an error report of "Error executing motor command".

Servos - If I open the webpage for the service the values are being passed on but not executed. If I hold my hand in front of the sensors and click refresh then the new values are displayed but I have to manually click "update" for the servo to actually move.

Basically what I am trying to accomplish is an assisted drive-by-wire utilizing the IR sensors. When the front IR detects something it puts the motors in reverse until the object is out of range. For fun I am throwing in some servo action when the left or right sensors detect something the turret turns left or right respectively. The rest of the time the motors are controlled by the gamepad. Just a little project to get my feet wet with the serializer.

I have attached a screen shot of my VPL diagram.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- Brandon

RE: Serializer and VPL

You need to open the SerializerServices VS2005 project, and build it.

You should then be able to see the Services within VPL. You should also be able to start up a DSS node, navigate to the MSRS Web Control Panel, and navigate to the services listed there (which you can start up too).

Best Regards!

Serializer and VPL

I've just received and assembled my Traxster and Serializer and am now trying to play around with programming it with MS VPL. I've downloaded and installed the Serializer Services into the location specified. However, being new to robotics and MSRS and VPL, I can't figure out how to see the Serializer Service in VPL. In other words, I don't really know what to do next to start programming my Traxster. Any thoughts for this newbie?
