Hello all!

I have several questions in regards to some components I plan on using.

The components in question are as follows:

1. GPS Receiver
http://www.parallax.com/Store/Sensors/CompassGPS/tabid/173/CategoryID/48/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/396/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName

2. Gyro
http://www.parallax.com/Store/Sensors/AccelerationTilt/tabid/172/CategoryID/47/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/97/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName

3. Compass
http://www.parallax.com/Store/Sensors/AccelerationTilt/tabid/172/CategoryID/47/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/97/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName

The questions are as follows:

1. Will these work with the serializer 3.0 controller?
2. If any of these will not work - what is recommended?
3. In terms of the compass - would it be better to use the one available on robotics connection or the one from parallax?
4. What has been done already with these types of sensors?

Thank you in advance

-Danny

Danny,

1. GPS Receiver
http://www.parallax.com/Store/Sensors/CompassGPS/tabid/173/CategoryID/48/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/396/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName

No - This has a serial TTL interface

2. Gyro
http://www.parallax.com/Store/Sensors/AccelerationTilt/tabid/172/CategoryID/47/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/97/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName,ProductName

No, this requires a synchronous SPI serial interface

3. Compass
http://www.parallax.com/StoreSearchResults/tabid/768/txtSearch/compass/List/0/SortField/4/ProductID/596/Default.aspx

Yes, it's an i2c device.

Jason,

Thanks for the info, I am assuming that I should get devices that are I2C compliant.

Would you happen to know what devices on the market today can be used for the others that are not compatible with the serilizer?

Thanks!

Jason,

What do you think of this component ? I2C Navigation Board

I searched the web from to end to end trying to find a component that would interface directly with the Serializer for GPS and found one that has an I2C interface.

Let me know what you think.

Yes, that should work, as well as this one:

DS-GPM Global Positioning System Module, from Designer Systems.
